Inside the Igloo
The sun shimmered brightly over the crystalline blizzard snow, which fell continuously from the greyish cloud and draped the rich, deep landscape in deep white. Flocks of emperor penguins lay over the snow like enormous black spots spread over an endless blanket. On a large chunk of ice, the lazy seals slept, enjoying the warm sunlight.
The little penguins played blissfully. Some slid on the frosty snow, while others participated in a vicious snowball fight. All of a sudden, one of the penguins yelled curiously, “Did anyone see Wingy? Or is he still sleeping? Or is he daydreaming again like a sleepyhead!!!” Rocking laughter cut the cold silence of the snow.
“O’ my friend, he’s probably sleepin’ and daydreamin’ about sunshine!!!!!!!” Replied a young seal twirling in delight around them.
Meanwhile, inside a lonely igloo next to the sea, the curious, little Wingy ate his warm breakfast. His parents and his little brother sat on their comfy chairs. His mum fed his brother fish while Wingy’s dad, the absolute famous fisherman, read his newspaper as usual.
All of a sudden, Wingy stopped eating. He started mixing his cereal, his stomach tying itself in knots. Then, he turned around and asked his mum,
“Mum?Mummy?Mum?”
“Yes,little Wingy?”
“Why do we live in this freezing weather?” he asked nervously. “Why can’t we live somewhere else? Tro…pical, I … mean.”
“Tropical! This is nuts!” replied his father, leaping out of his chair, his black, thick brows rising rapidly.
In a daze, he folded his newspaper and chucked it on the table viciously.
After that, he made his way towards Wingy and landed a heavy hand over his shoulder while murmuring in his ear, “Wingy, dear. You have to know that we cannot live in hot places because penguins would perish if we were to take one step out of here!”
“Hey superhero, how will you go there?” asked his giggling brother.
“Hmmmm, hmmmmm, hmmmm, I’ll just fly!”
“FLY! HOW!” yelled his mum.
“Wingy, my dear, it doesn’t mean that we called you Wingy because you can fly” replied his dad in a quiet voice.
“Oh yeah daddy, you told me that when I was a baby, you called me Wingy because I had wings!”
“Yes, my child, yes, but remember, you can never ever ever fly.” said his dad in a grave voice.
“Then well daddy, if not wings then no need, Anyways, I had already a wonderful sun tanning in the last few days!” replied Wingy, his body animated with liveliness.
“A sun tanning!” exclaimed his mother with a surprised frown, “Here! In Antarctica! Are you serious?! Where on earth!?”
“In his daydreams,” interrupted his little brother while laughing wickedly.
Immediately, Wingy shook the table so hard that his spoon bounced and knocked his brother’s porridge. It fell on the floor and cracked in a big BOOM.
“None of you care about me!”Yelled Wingy with a trembling voice, struggling to hide his tears,” You will see. One day, I will find my way and escape from this MISERABLE GLOOMY land of rubbish!! You will see! ALL OF YOU WILL SEE WHAT WINGY WILL DO!”SEE!!”
And then, he stormed off angrily, shutting the door violently behind him, and off the set.
Very Nice Story! Lots of penguin talks and very engaging! Will definitely read chapter 2 to learn about Wingy.
