Disappeared – Part I

In my town called Tenby located near a beach full of activities, there was an endless number of tourists who roamed the streets. Tourists were willing to visit every year to see its clear beaches, unique cafes, and historic landmarks. Yet, people didn’t know that the town of Tenby had a really mysterious background. People didn’t know what really happened behind the act, but a person kept disappearing every week, and it made the town go silent. I went to school on Tuesday; there was nobody who had been reported missing for those two weeks. With my bag full with books, it still felt light. I rushed over to school ready and eager to start my day without realizing that it would be a long one.
“It’s been quiet for two weeks, right, Toby?” I asked as I patted his back.
“It feels so weird not seeing anyone get called to the principal’s office in a while. It doesn’t feel like our town anymore,” replied Toby.
“You wanna go to the Trabot lake after school?” I asked eager to listen to his response.
“Sure, why not? Meet me at the lake after school; I have to go home and change,” responded Toby.
We went our different ways to class, waiting for that moment when the bell would finally ring and the chain that connected us to our school was cut. The moment I heard the bell, I took off running straight to my home. I ran all the way home with my mind not caring about a thing. I went inside my home, took out my stuff from school, and changed into my swimsuit ready to meet Toby at the lake. Whistling a tune as I walked with my arms swinging, I arrived at the lake. The moment I arrived at the lake, something felt wrong; it felt gloomy and awkwardly silent. I thought Toby was playing a joke on me, so I decided to search for him. Hours passed trying to look for any clue of where Toby could’ve gone, but I couldn’t find him. I took out my phone and called Toby’s mom.
“Ms. Mora? Did Toby leave the house already?” I asked, my phone shaking as I spoke.
“Yes, he did leave the house three hours ago,” she replied.
Thinking of every possible answer that is known to mankind, I decided to call Toby. The moment I called him, I heard a faint alarm from a place far away. I walked, looking around my area as I took each step. I called him again and the sound became louder. I knelt down and put my hands inside the sand, moving it left and right. As I was about to give up, I felt something vibrating under the sand; with hope in mind, I rushed to clear the sand from the object that was vibrating. I picked up the object and realized it was Toby’s phone. That’s when it hit me: Toby had disappeared.

Very interesting ending! I liked the story very much. It had a lot of suspense and engaged me very much.
