And then there were the rumors. Whispers in the hallways about strange things happening wherever Jada was. People were getting sick with mysterious symptoms, and others asking everyone to see her in the shadows lurking, her eyes glowing in the darkness.
Jada’s canine teeth glistened in the sunlight as she invited me for a sleepover. Of course, I agreed because this could be an opportunity to become part of her circle. I took the card and opened it. I saw this weird metallic thing on it and it said, “tap here” and I’m Kaila, so of course I’ll do the stupidest things ever. So I tapped it and this green fog started to come out of it and everyone started getting symptoms of vampire syndrome. The first stage was a rash, the second was a fever, and the third and final stage was heart failure. You dropped dead on the ground but your eyes were still open for Jada to be the last thing you ever saw before the blood flashed before your eyes. When people tried to find your body, it was where they least expected it.
Earlier that morning:
I was sitting in social studies, listening to my teacher yap and yap about death. I could see no one was smiling but Jada. In fact, when I looked at her, her face went pale and when you saw her teeth, they got longer like a vampire’s fangs. It was weird but pretty cool that she could do that.
“Hey! How do you do that fang thing with your teeth?” I asked.
“Um, don’t worry about that. I’ll tell you later,” she said.
Through ELA, Math, Science, and Spanish class, that’s all I could think about. “How could she do that?”
When I saw her in the halls, she would sometimes disappear into thin air, only to reappear behind someone else, and when I tried to tell people about it, they would say, “I didn’t see anything. You must be crazy.” It was as if she had some kind of supernatural power. The way she moved quickly and silently sent shivers down my spine. And then there were the rumors. Whispers in the hallways about strange things happening wherever Jada was. People were getting sick with mysterious symptoms, and others asking everyone to see her in the shadows lurking, her eyes glowing in the darkness.
One day, as I was walking home from school, I felt a presence behind me. I turned around, and there she was, Jada, with an eerie smile on her face. “You should be careful, Kaila,” she said in a voice that sounded like a whisper from beyond the grave. “You never know what might happen if you get too close to me.” And with that, she vanished into thin air, leaving me frozen in fear.
From that day on, I couldn’t shake the feeling that Jada was watching me, waiting for the perfect moment to strike. I started noticing strange things happening around me: objects moving on their own, strange whispers in the dead of night, and a feeling of being followed wherever I went. I couldn’t help but wonder if I had made a grave mistake by accepting her invitation for a sleepover.
