I’ve always loved to stargaze since the day I was born. I’m very grateful that my parents always influenced me into it. But on July 2nd, 1917 at 9:45 pm, I finally saw the stars for the first time this month! With all the jets and gas planes, it was very hard to see the stars of the night sky, so this night would be very special to me. I set up my telescope and sit looking at the stars but as I look I notice something green destroying everything that stops it in its path. I look to my left and see that all of the stars are gone!
I gaze at the stars with shock and my legs feel like jello.
“What am I going to do?”
The creature leaps onto another star and slowly cocks its head towards me as if I’m dessert for tonight, so I grab everything and run the fastest I’ve ever run in my life to the main town with the green creature still rampaging behind me with terror in its eyes. My heart races, each breath harder than the last. The streets are empty as if the whole town vanished in fear of the creature. It haunts me.
I won’t stop running. My mind is a blur, only one thought is clear: get to the town square. I know there’s an old, forgotten church with a bell tower that could give some sort of vantage point. Maybe I can hide. Perhaps I can fight back.
The creature growls behind me, sending chills down my spine and making me shiver. The green glow of its body reflects off many glass buildings, casting mysterious shadows. I push myself harder, my legs burning, my lungs screaming for air. Finally, I reach the church. Its tall skyscraper-like form provides me a beacon of safety in the distance.
I trip up the stairs and into the tower, the old doors creaking as I try to open them. I lock the doors as tight as I can, hoping the green creature will not find me. I look out the windows and I see its eyes. They glow like molten emeralds. Its wonky teeth reflect the faint light of the city below.
”I’m trapped. There’s nowhere left to run.”
Suddenly a thought strikes me. What if it’s not just hunting me? What if it’s just trying to warn us?
The stars disappearing … could it be connected to all of this?
I look through my telescope, kinda freaking out about what I will see. The sky is more clear from this point. The creature isn’t alone. More like slowly emerging from the shadows, with its green glow lighting up the sky. They move in a pattern almost like a dance.
I think back to the stories my parents told me about the stars and how the night sky was a bridge between worlds. Can these creatures be from another place? Another dimension? Something about their sudden appearance doesn’t feel destructive; it feels like something is changing, something larger than any one of us could possibly understand.
