“So when you two were sleeping on your way here we injected you too with a substance that gives you abilities like super hearing, invisibility, and super speed so you too can be better on missions,” the doctor said.
“So for the mission at the apartment, you need to be ready for everything that comes your way. So we have prepared this course for you to experience what it’s like to be in those situations,” the group explained.
I remember having to traverse long distances hanging by a rope over large heights that seemed to be endlessly deep. Then I remembered that I could use my abilities to help me finish the course, so I used my super speed to jump over the distance and realized that this is fun if you think about it.
After a long day of training, I went to sleep. At 4 AM, an alarm repeatedly blared.
“EMERGENCY EMERGENCY REPORT DOWNSTAIRS AS QUICK AS POSSIBLE.”
So Harper and I ran downstairs in our mission suits. Using our powers, we sprinted all the way downstairs. It was really fun until we fell face down in front of Commander Peak. He was waiting for us with a serious look on his face.
“This is your first mission,” he said, cutting straight to the point. “There’s no time to goof around, you two need to move quickly.”
He informed us of the situation: A group of armed intruders had taken over a high-rise apartment building downtown. Their plans were very unclear but Harper and I were sure to find out what it could be.
“You’ve trained for this,” he said. “Trust your gut and use your abilities wisely. Harper, you’ll need your invisibility for hiding when someone’s near.
“And you,” he continued as he looked at me, “use your super speed to cover ground quickly and neutralize any threats.”
We grabbed our gear and jumped into an unmarked van that would take us to the site. The drive was tense, each of us lost in our thoughts, mentally preparing for what was to come since this would be our first ever mission.
