Brooke’s Comeback

In Brookside Oaks Secondary School, Brooke was one of the most popular kids in school. Although she did not have lots of money, she was famous for her kindness. Her best friend, Maddie, was always jealous of her. She wasn’t a real friend. Brooke thought she was a real friend. One day Brooke and Maddie were testing other young girls for a gymnastics competition. Maddie judged people by their outer appearance and clothes while Brooke cared about the inner talent. Coy and Jasmine were trying out. They had expensive clothes on but no skills, so Maddie decided to get them on the team. However, Heather and Kaeli had impressive skills but not the best looking appearance. Brooke ended up choosing Heather and Kaeli. Maddie was troubled by Brooke’s unfair decision. She thought that looks made people win. However, it was skills that made you winners. Brooke saw that Maddie was mad, so she decided to cheer her up.
“Hey, Maddie, I know you are a little troubled that the rich girls, Coy and Jasmine, did not make it to the team. I wanted to tell you that they can be backups,” said Brooke.
“Thanks, Brooke, I really appreciate it,” said Maddie.
The next day all six of them were practicing their gymnastics routine they would present at the contest. It was Brooke’s turn to do the ultimate jump. She would have to stand on the thighs of Maddie and Kaeli. She would jump high and stand right back on their thighs. As she was in the air, jealous Maddie moved her thigh away which caused a traumatic leg injury. All of them heard a large crack. Few hours later, Brooke ended up in the hospital and was told by the doctors that she had to rest the leg which meant that she couldn’t participate in the contest anymore! A week later Brooke went to check on the gymnastics team. She was shocked to see Kaeli and Heather gone.
“Maddie, where are Kaeli and Heather?” asked Brooke.
“They are gone, I may or may not have kicked them off the team and called more rich girls on the team,” said Maddie.
“You cannot do that! I am team Captain, I decided who is on the team. Besides, why are you practicing another gymnastics routine? Ours was different, Maddie,” said Brooke.
“You are no longer Team Captain, Ms. Brooke. Girls, raise your hand if you do not want Brooke as team captain!”
All the girls raised their hands because they did not want her as team captain.
“This is very unfair, besides you were a fake friend. You just used me because I was popular and you were not,” exclaimed Brooke.

1 week later:

Brooke sat in the study lounge next to this new girl. She had no clue who she was, but decided to say “hi”.
“Hi, I’m Brooke, you?”
“Oh, hello. My name is Jade! I just transferred here. My dad lost his job in Canada, so he came to the States,” said Jade.
“That’s interesting! I would love to know more about you, Jade! Why don’t we arrange a dinner night together so we can introduce ourselves to one another?” said Brooke.
“That–that sounds like a wonderful idea! I would love to chat over at Giovanni’s. It’s my favorite restaurant!” exclaimed Jade.
“Great idea, as a matter of fact it is one of my favorites too! There is one solid similarity between you and me,” said Brooke.
Just like that Brooke made a real friend, rather than Maddie.
The day of the contest approached slowly.
“Next we have Team Maddie! Everyone please welcome Maddie and her team with a warm round of applause,” yelled the MC.

After both teams performed their cheer, the judges came with a final decision.
“This is a hard decision, but I have to say that Brooke’s team aka The Nerds have caught the attention of the audience tonight and won fair and square! Congrats girls!”
Brooke hugged her fellows, thanking them for supporting her when she needed them the most. Maddie was devastated and regretted leaving Brooke behind. Just like that Brooke never talked to Maddie and Maddie never spoke to Brooke again.
