I woke up super early, even before my alarm rang at 5 AM. I was so excited that I jumped out of bed and grabbed my clothes for the field trip. We were going to the Museum of Science and Industry today, and I had been looking forward to it all week. I got ready as fast as I could, imagining all the cool stuff we’d see. I couldn’t wait to meet up with my friends!
When we got to school, it was crazy. Everyone was running around, trying to get a spot on the bus with their friends. My friends and I sprinted to the back seats, and a few of the boys sat in front of us. As soon as we all found our spots, the bus pulled out, and the real fun began.
Amy had this super fun idea to make the time pass faster.
“Every time we see a truck, let’s do the honk sign and get the drivers to honk back at us!” she said, laughing.
We all thought it was hilarious. So every time we passed a big truck, we’d stick our arms out the windows, doing a honk motion and yelling “HONK!” as loud as we could.
Sometimes, the drivers would actually honk, and the whole bus would go crazy, screaming and laughing. Other times, the drivers looked at us but didn’t honk at all, which only made us sad and disappointed. It was so much fun, and we hadn’t even made it to the museum yet!
When we got to the museum, I felt excited but also a little nervous. The building looked enormous. Once we got inside, it was like walking into a whole new world. We started with the Tesla coil demonstration, and it was so cool! These huge sparks of electricity were jumping through the air, and you could feel the energy buzzing all around you.
After that, we went to this weather section where we saw a mini tornado. You could walk in a circle around it to make the winds spin, and there was another part where you could press a button to create a tiny tsunami. It was like magic, but it was all science. My mind was blown by how awesome it was.
Later, we went to watch a movie in this giant theater that looked like a giant dome. The stairs to get to our seats were really steep, and I almost fell trying to sit down with my friends. The kids sitting behind us kept on intentionally kicking the backs of our heads, which was annoying, but we just laughed it off. The movie was about people who had cancer and how they lived with it and while it was pretty cool, I was mostly thinking about food because I was starving.
After the movie, we finally got to eat. The cafeteria food was expensive, but it was also so good. I got this big plate of cheese Alfredo, and I devoured it. My friends and I sat together, talking and laughing about all the fun things we had seen so far. The whole day felt like an adventure.
On the bus ride home, we rushed to the back again, but right as we were about to start the honking game again, our teacher told us we had to stop.
“No more telling truck drivers to honk,” she said. “It’s a safety issue.”
We all groaned, but we weren’t going to let that ruin our fun. Instead, we spent the rest of the ride singing, yelling, and being as loud as possible.
By the time we got back to school, I was exhausted, but I didn’t care. It had been such an awesome day. From the Tesla coils to the tornado and hanging out with my friends, it was the best field trip ever. Even though I knew I’d be super tired the next day, it was totally worth it.
