Tess ran through the woods slowly as she watched every step ahead of her.
Creek!
Tess just stepped on a branch.
“Ugh, crazy me. Why would I? Now he will get me and kill me,” said Tess.
What did ‘he’ refer to? Who was it?
Tess has been running away from Mr. Prouty the whole day. She accidently stepped on his lawn. He was a creepy guy. His house looked haunted just like his looks. If he found her Tess didn’t know what he would do. He could possibly assassin her in the middle of the woods.
“Little girl! Come out before I rip your skin off your bones. I bet you wouldn’t want that,” said the creepy Mr. Prouty as he came closer.
Tess ran harder and harder until she approached a mini cottage covered in watermelons.
Why watermelons? They looked very fresh too.
Even if Tess didn’t want to go she had to. Or Mr. Prouty would catch her and kill her alive.
“I have no choice, I am just gonna go check it out,” said Tess.
Tess ran to the watermelon house and knocked on the door.
“Hello, anybody there. I have an emergency!” exclaimed Tess.
An old lady opened the door and said, “What do you want from me? A watermelon?” asked the old lady.
She pulled off a watermelon slice covered with chocolate and gave it to Tess as she almost shut the door.
Tess pushed back the door open and said, “Look, I know you probably won’t trust me. I am a stranger. But I am in big trouble,” said Tess.
She looked back and said, “I don’t have any time. He will come. Can I explain the situation to you inside the watermelon house, please?”
“Sure, little girl, jump in,” said the old lady as she sighed.
It looked like the old lady was used to having annoying children visitors in her unique watermelon house.
Tess and the old lady walked to the living room quietly.
“My name is Tess, I live on Chatham Drive. It’s a–” said Tess.
“I don’t need the details. Tell me why you are here,” asked the old lady.
“I am deeply sorry. I am here because my neighbor is trying to kill me!” yelled Tess.
The old lady spilled her scorching hot tea out of her mouth and onto Tess’s outfit which burnt the fabric of her suit.
“You really think I would believe that!” said the old lady.
“I know. It’s hard to believe. But the truth is that I accidentally stepped on his lawn. He is an aggressive and a crazy guy. You have to believe me!” yelled Tess.
“Alright, chill. If that is true the guy who is ‘trying to kill you’ should come knock on my door very soon. I will tell him you went the other way if he comes,” said the old lady.
“That sounds like a deal!” exclaimed Tess.
Tess ran upstairs to the old lady’s room. She got distracted and shocked finding a picture of Mr. Prouty and the old lady together.
“WHAT IS HAPPENING! ARE THEY HUSBAND AND WIFE?” yelled Tess.
“What if Mr. Prouty asks the lady and she tells him where I am. This is not a safe place for me to hide. I’ll just hide under the bed. She won’t find me there,” said Tess.
A few minutes later Tess heard a knock on the door.
“David Prouty! My husband! I found you after a decade,” said the old lady.
“Hello Jessy. By any chance do you know where this girl named Tess is?” said Mr. Prouty as she peeked through her windows.
Jessy blocked his eyesight with her hands and said, “No, no. Not at all. I have not seen any girl named Tess,”
“Okay, as you say. I am gonna find her and come back to visit you. Why is your house covered in watermelons?” said Mr. Prouty.
“It’s because when little children pass by they get attracted. Then they come in. I cook them with some olive oil. I pour some hot sauce and barbeque sauce to spice it up. Then I have a delicious child as a dinner meal which keeps me full for days,” said Jessy.
“Ha-ha. I understand that. Look, I gotta go. See you in thirty?” said Mr Prouty as he ran away looking back at his wife, Jessy.
He left.
“Phew, that was a close one,” said Jessy.
Tess walked down the stairs and said, “Thank you for taking my side, although Mr. Prouty is your husband,” said Tess.
“Was. Was my husband. And how do you know?” asked Jessy.
“I saw the picture in your bedroom. I am sorry to hear that though,” said Tess.
“Don’t be. It’s alright,” said Jessy.
“Well I better get heading. It was great meeting you!” exclaimed Tess.
“Try to go, using Misr Road. It is a secret pathway. Safer and faster. I am sure you will get home before Mr. Prouty comes back. Never step on his lawn again. He killed our only daughter because of that,” said Jessy as she burst into tears.
“I am sorry to hear that. I better get going. Thanks for everything!” said Tess as she left the house.
She grabbed a watermelon slice as she was leaving. She fell into a hole underground all of a sudden. What happened? Did Tess die?
